House Democrats have launched an investigation into the $8 billion Paramount-Skydance merger, alleging that Paramount may have given President Donald Trump an illegal bribe in the form of a $16 million lawsuit settlement to secure approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
The Federal Communications Commission approved the $8.4 billion merger between Paramount Global and Skydance Media following a 2-1 vote, clearing the final regulatory hurdle on July 24. The merger includes the transfer of licenses for 28 CBS-owned local TV stations and formalizes the creation of the Paramount Skydance Corporation.
