Sweden Launches Islamist Infiltration Investigation

Sweden has announced a sweeping investigation into Islamist infiltration across the country following the release of a French intelligence report that exposed the Muslim Brotherhood’s decades-long efforts to subvert European institutions and impose Sharia law. The report, published by the French Ministry of Interior, warns that the Brotherhood has established a sophisticated network across Europe, infiltrating governments, NGOs, and Muslim communities—often using liberal values as cover for their radical agenda.

The French findings implicate multiple European nations, including Sweden, as part of the Brotherhood’s targeted campaign. The report claims Sweden’s permissive stance on multiculturalism made it an easy target, noting the Brotherhood’s small but influential presence, backed by financial support from Qatar. According to the French government, the Muslim Brotherhood has successfully cultivated ties with Swedish political parties—particularly the Social Democrats—while embedding itself into key structures across Europe.

In response, Swedish Integration Minister Mats Persson announced a government probe into the extent of Islamist infiltration in Sweden. “I will convene an expert group to get a picture of the situation of Islamist infiltration in Sweden. This is against the background of what has emerged in France,” Persson said. He pledged to “strangle foreign funding of religious communities, where states fund radical mosques” in an effort to combat undemocratic forces threatening Sweden’s liberal democracy.

The Social Democrats, Sweden’s dominant left-wing party, have downplayed allegations of ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. Party Secretary Tobias Baudin insisted there is “zero tolerance” for extremist associations, but the party has faced scrutiny after expelling MP Jamal El-Haj last year over reported ties to Hamas and for lobbying the Swedish Migration Agency on behalf of a Muslim Brotherhood-linked Imam.

Sweden’s probe underscores the growing alarm across Europe over Islamist networks exploiting open societies and liberal values for their own ends. The investigation will assess whether Sweden’s immigration and integration policies have left the country vulnerable to extremist agendas.
