Several staffers within the Trump administration are not taking salaries, a report details.
Among those not taking salaries are Secretary of State Marco Rubio in his capacity as national security adviser, cryptocurrency czar David Sachs, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and faith advisor Paula White.
According to Fox News, Witkoff receives compensation from the State Department rather than the White House.
The top-paid staffer is senior advisor Jacalynn Klopp, who earns $225,700 per year. Associate counsel Edgar Mkrtchin follows her, making $203,645 per year.
Thirty-three staffers make $195,200, including White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, border czar Tom Homan, homeland security advisor Stephen Miller, Chief of Staff Susan Wiles, trade advisor Peter Navarro, and others.
President Trump indicated last year that he would not accept his presidential salary, $400,000 with an expense allowance of $50,000.
Speaking to NBC’s Kristen Welker, Trump said, “I’m not going to accept a salary, no.”
“I’m giving up a lot of money. You know? You know, it amazed me that, and maybe this isn’t right, but other than George Washington — and they’re not sure about that — every President has accepted their salary, except me,” Trump said.
When asked if he accepted the pension, Trump said, “I don’t think I accepted anything.”
“I didn’t, and I’m not going to,” he added. “I don’t believe I got any credit for that, but I just feel for me, it’s a nice thing to do.” He further noted, “I was surprised, not one president has done that,” Trump added. “I would have assumed Roosevelt would not accept the salary or Kennedy — you know, the Kennedy family is rich.”
