Democratic Socialist Francesca Hong failed to secure the Democratic nomination for Wisconsin governor. She lost the primary by less than one percent to David Crowley.
According to NBC News, Crowley secured 39.8% of the vote to Hong’s 39.3%.
Following Crowley’s victory, Democratic Governor Tony Evers wrote on X, “Tonight’s all about @DavidCCrowley. He’s earned this win and the accolades.”
“I am so proud of David—he’s the future of our Party, and I can’t wait for him to be our next governor,” he continued. “For now, we polka. Tomorrow, we’re back at work to win. @TomTiffanyWI, we’ll see you in November.”
Hong conceded to Crowley, writing on social media, in part, “This campaign was not about getting one person into office. It is about building a movement for permanent affordability and a government that puts working people first. Our movement is strong, and the work isn’t done. I am overwhelmingly proud of our team and the work they have done to achieve that goal.”
“Congratulations to David Crowley and his team,” she wrote. “I fully support him and look forward to working with him to defeat Congressman Tiffany in November.”
Mandela Barnes, the former Wisconsin lieutenant governor and frontrunner in the state’s Democratic gubernatorial primary, withdrew from the race late last month. At the time, Barnes had been polling second in the race with 16% support, as per a Marquette University Law School poll. State Rep. Francesca Hong led the field at 38%, with Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley third at 7%.
