Socialist AOC Who Wants to ‘Tax the Rich’ Still Owes New York Taxes From a Failed Business in 2017

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez still hasn’t paid state taxes from 2017 for a failed business she owned until 2016.

QUICK FACTS:
  • AOC, who makes $174,000 a year in Congress and wants the rich to pay their “fair share” in taxes, still hasn’t paid a tax bill from 5 years ago.
  • Cortez’s office claimed the bill, which has increased 52% since 2017, was “in error,” according to the Washington Examiner.
  • “The congresswoman is still in the process of contesting the tax warrant,” AOC’s spokeswoman Lauren Hitt told the New York Post in 2020. “The business has been closed for several years now, and so we believe that the state Tax Department has continued to collect the franchise tax in error.”
AOC’S HYPOCRITICAL STANCE ON TAXING THE RICH:

“In one of her first moves as a member of Congress, Ocasio-Cortez called for tax rates up to 70% for high-income earners to fund her sweeping Green New Deal climate policy proposal,” The Washington Examiner reported.

BACKGROUND:
  • The failure to pay her share of taxes is a stark contrast to AOC’s stance throughout her time in office.
  • The Democratic congresswoman most recently made news regarding taxes when she wore a gown with the words “Tax the Rich” in a bright red font to the Met Gala in Sept. 2021.
  • “It’s not clear whether Ocasio-Cortez is still contesting the tax bill or if she intends to pay what her former business owes to the state,” the Washington Examiner noted. “Ocasio-Cortez’s office did not return a request for comment.”
