Shooter Dead After Storming Border Patrol Agents

A shooter is now deceased after opening fire on Border Patrol agents in McAllen, Texas.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in a statement, “This morning an individual opened fire at the entrance of the United States Border Patrol sector annex in McAllen, Texas. Both Border Patrol agents and local police helped neutralize the shooter.”

“Two officers and a Border Patrol employee were injured, including one shot in the knee. All three have gone to the hospital,” DHS said. “This is an ongoing investigation led by the [Federal Bureau of Investigation].”

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) of the Rio Grande Valley Sector similarly stated, “Early this morning, an active shooter incident occurred at Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector Annex.”

“The suspect is deceased,” the statement continued. “The incident is still under investigation. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available.”

FBI San Antonio said the “armed suspect, an adult male, engaged the law enforcement officers responding to the scene and officers returned fire.” The officer injured in the gunfire is in “stable condition,” the agency said.

“This is not an active shooter situation and there is currently no threat to public safety,” the statement noted. “However, out of an abundance of caution, the FBI asks that the public avoid the area if possible. The FBI is the lead investigative agency, and we will continue working with our local, state, and federal partners to ensure the safety of this community.”

McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez told reporters that the shooter is believed to be Ryan Luis Mosqueda with a “1997 date of birth.” He allegedly drove in from Michigan.
