Actress Sharon Stone has attributed Donald Trump’s electoral success to what she describes as “uneducated” Americans who lack the means to travel internationally. Speaking at the Torino Film Festival in Turin, Italy, Stone warned that the United States could follow a path similar to fascist Italy under Benito Mussolini.
“Italy has seen fascism. Italy has seen these things. You guys, you understand what happens. You have seen this before,” Stone remarked. She went on to characterize America as being in its “adolescence,” describing it as “arrogant,” “ignorant,” and “naive.”
Stone’s speech took a controversial turn when she urged people to keep their wives and daughters away from men who voted for Trump, whom she described as “dangerous, violent men.” She called on “good men” to recognize that many of their friends are not “good men” and act accordingly.
The Casino actress also compared Trump to Mussolini, echoing comments she made earlier this year when she criticized the former president for running on what she claimed was a platform of “hatred.” In July, Stone expressed her consideration of moving to Europe if Trump were to win, citing concerns about his political rhetoric.
“When we see presidential candidates whose platform is hate, that’s something that I don’t feel our country has faced before,” Stone said at the time.
Stone’s comments come amid a wave of celebrities voicing discontent with Trump’s victory. Last week, former talk show host Ellen DeGeneres reportedly relocated to England with her partner, citing Trump’s election as their reason for leaving the U.S.
It remains unclear whether Stone plans to follow through on her earlier suggestion of moving abroad.
