Senate Republican Releases Report on Origins of COVID-19

“This report concludes most likely this was two leaks,” said Senator Roger Marshall.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Senator Roger Marshall (R-KS) of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee and staff released a report titled “Muddy Waters,” examining the origins of COVID-19.
  • “This report is a crucial development in getting to the bottom of COVID-19’s true origins and exposing the deception of those that sought to conceal how this pandemic started,” Marshall said in a press release.
  • “A preponderance of evidence in this report suggests there were two separate unintentional lab leaks dating back to fall of 2019 in Wuhan, China with significant evidence supporting that COVID-19 was a lab-created and altered virus,” the senator continued.
  • Marshall told Just the News that “we’re in no better shape today than we were a year ago, three years ago, as far as I’m concerned,” adding, “There’s nothing proving to me that they’re doing this type of research in BSL-4 labs.”
  • BSL-4 labs are reserved for some of the most dangerous diseases. They represent the highest level of biosafety laboratories and are designed to study infectious agents or toxins that pose a high risk of aerosol-transmitted laboratory infections and life-threatening diseases for which no vaccine or therapy is available.
  • Marshall told reporters that government agencies are still concealing information about the origins of COVID-19, and believes this information would prove the lab leaks occurred in China.
  • “There are key data points that are being held back that could help us prove that, but we can’t get that data,” Marshall noted.
FROM THE REPORT:
  • “Epidemiological and genetic molecular analyses of the early published circulating Wuhan SARSCoV-2 strains supported the possibility of two spillover events two or more weeks apart,” Marshall’s report states.
  • “This assessment was made based on minor genetic differences in early circulating strains suggesting that two lineages of the same virus may have emerged simultaneously and progressed on different paths or sequentially separated by some period of time,” the report adds, explaining what Marshall believes to be two lab leaks, “One lineage showing more mutations than the other implying it had been circulated longer than the other or had potentially passed through more individuals.”
  • “While the CCDC published epidemiology describes the outbreak likely beginning on December 8, 2019, there is ample evidence to indicate SARS-CoV-2 emerged earlier. COVID-19 cases reported by China media outlets, US Government declassified intelligence reports and Government of China confirmed cases of illness in foreign visitors beginning in early to mid-November,” the report goes on to say. “These cases comport with epidemiological and molecular aging modeling that the COVID outbreak began in mid- to late October or early November 2019.”
  • The report also notes the safety hazards of the BSL-4 lab in Wuhan, stating, “Patents addressed biocontainment faults with animal transfer cabinets, biosafety autoclaves, leaky airtight doors, and excessive corrosive disinfectants affecting stainless steel laboratory equipment and biocontainment structures.”
  • “In short, the WIV was attempting to remedy its biosafety problems at the same time its researchers were conducting experiments on infectious SARS-related viruses they believed were at ‘highrisk’ of spilling over into humans and causing a pandemic.”
BACKGROUND:
  • Former Director of National Intelligence (DNI), John Ratcliffe, is set to testify before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic and is expected to state that the “only explanation” for the COVID-19 pandemic is a lab leak.
  • According to the testimony exclusively obtained by Fox News, Ratcliffe will say, “My informed assessment, as a person with as much or more access than anyone to our government’s intelligence during the initial year of the virus outbreak and pandemic onset, has been and continues to be that a lab leak is the only explanation credibly supported by our intelligence, by science and by common sense.”
  • Ratcliffe is also expected to criticize the Central Intelligence Agency’s (CIA) indecision to the origins of COVID-19.
  • “To put it bluntly, this is unjustifiable—and a reflection not that the agency can’t make an assessment with any confidence, only that it won’t,” according to the testimony.
