Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) sent letters to former health officials, requesting interviews about their roles in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, including vaccines. The letters, sent to former Food and Drug Administration officials Dr. Peter Marks, Dr. Narayan Nair, Dr. Steven Anderson, and Dr. Manette Niu, as well as former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci.
In his letter to Fauci, Johnson wrote, “I want to give you another opportunity to provide much-needed transparency about the COVID-19 pandemic and the government’s response to it, including early treatments and the development, deployment, safety monitoring, and efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccines.”
“The American people deserve answers to the many outstanding questions that only you can address, including your awareness of the deluge of adverse events being reported to safety surveillance systems and whether you knew that U.S. health officials intentionally used a data mining algorithm to conduct vaccine safety analyses that hid safety signals for COVID-19 vaccines-a revelation that my Subcommittee only recently uncovered,” he added. “I hope that you will be cooperative and fully transparent regarding your involvement and knowledge of these issues.”
Some of the other letters acknowledged that Johnson is “mindful of past efforts by Department of Health and Human Services personnel to conceal records relating to the development, safety, and efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccines.” Any attempt to obstruct or delay responses to this request will result in compulsory process.”
Johnson’s efforts come as Fauci refused to answer any question during his congressional testimony. “[A]lthough it pains me to do so because of the respect I have for the legislative branch of government and my decades-long record of cooperating with Congress under the advice of my attorneys, I will invoke my right under the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution to refrain from answering your questions.”
Earlier this year, Johnson called for a “COVID reckoning” after former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard revealed that Dr. Anthony Fauci provided millions of taxpayer dollars to fund gain-of-function research at the Wuhan lab.
