First Minister of Scotland Humza Yousaf promised to provide “sanctuary” for Palestinians seeking asylum.
“There are currently one million displaced people in Gaza,” Yousaf said in a video. “Therefore, I am calling on the international community to commit to a worldwide refugee programme for the people of Gaza.”
He then called for the U.K. government to “immediately begin work on the creation of a refugee resettlement scheme for those in Gaza who want to, and are able to, leave.”
“We are absolutely clear that the life of a Palestinian is equal to the life of an Israeli,” he added.
“Scotland is willing to be the first country in the U.K. to offer safety and sanctuary to those who are caught up in these terrible attacks,” the speech continued.
In the past, people in Scotland and across the UK have opened our hearts and our homes.

The announcement was met with criticism.
Brexit leader Nigel Farage asked on X, “Does the Scottish First Minister include Hamas activists in this?”
