San Francisco DA Won’t Hand Pelosi’s Illegal Alien Attacker to Federal Authorities, Cites ‘Sanctuary City’

District Attorney Brooke Jenkins will not turn over Canadian citizen David Depape to federal authorities due to San Francisco being a “sanctuary city” for illegal immigrants. Nancy Pelosi originally supported the policy, although it is now preventing her husband’s attacker from deportation. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement presented an immigration hold on DePape; ICE must be informed of DePape’s release so they can then take custody of the individual. Jenkins dismissed the process, saying the city is a “refuge.”

From The Blaze:

According to the city ordinance, no city or county department, agency, commission, officer, or employee "shall use any City funds or resources to assist in the enforcement of Federal immigration law or to gather or disseminate information regarding release status of individuals or any other such personal information."

The ordinance does offer an exception to the rule, however, that is relevant in light of DePape's federal charges. Assistance can be given if "required by Federal or State statute, regulation, or court decision."
