San Diego Border Patrol authorities shut down a migrant processing center.
“Due to the unprecedented decrease in illegal crossings this year, the massive 1,000 person, San Diego Sector Soft Sided Facility has been dismantled,” the border sector wrote on social media. “In 3/2025, San Diego Sector arrested 1,199 illegal aliens with an average of 38 per day. This was a 186% drop compared to 3/2024.”
Other migrant processing facilities across the nation closed in March due to an “unprecedented drop in apprehensions.”
“Due to the unprecedented drop in apprehensions of illegal aliens as a result of the President’s recent executive actions, CBP is reducing the number of temporary, soft-sided processing facilities where illegal aliens have been held in specific locations along the southwest border,” U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Acting Commissioner Pete Flores said at the time.
“CBP no longer has a need for them as illegal aliens are being quickly removed,” he explained. “The U.S. Border Patrol has full capability to manage the detention of apprehended aliens in its permanent facilities. Manpower and other resources dedicated to temporary processing facilities will be redirected toward other priorities and will speed CBP’s progress in gaining operational control over the southwest border.”
The closed facilities were located in Texas and Arizona.
CBP recently announced that migrant apprehensions along the southern border dropped by 93% compared to April 2024. Throughout April 2025, Border Patrol recorded 8,383 apprehensions. This time last year, there were 128,895 recorded apprehensions.
Only five illegal immigrants were temporarily allowed into the United States for court cases, a significant drop from the estimated 68,000 in April 2024.
