Russia has warned that the use of long-range missiles by Ukraine would signify the West’s “direct participation” in the conflict.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, “Kyiv’s use of long-range missiles to attack our territory will mean the direct participation of the United States and its satellites in hostilities against Russia. In this case, Russia’s response will be adequate and tangible.”
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov similarly noted that long-range missiles would lead to a “new round of tension and a qualitatively new situation from the point of view of U.S. involvement in this conflict.”
American Faith reported that the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) allows Ukrainian forces to strike targets up to 190 miles away.
Russian lawmaker Maria Butina declared that the Biden administration is “trying to escalate the situation to the maximum while they still have power and are still in office.”
She added that she has “great hope that [Donald] Trump will overcome this decision if this has been made because they are seriously risking the start of World War Three, which is not in anybody’s interest.”
