Republicans Target Globalist Tax

Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) recently introduced a bill that would block the United Nations from placing taxes on U.S. businesses and citizens.

The legislation, called the UNtaxed Act and introduced last week, seeks to prevent global carbon taxes. The bill’s text reads, “No tax, tariff, fee, or other such penalty may be levied upon United States citizens or United States entities by the United Nations or any organ, specialized agency, commission, or other formally affiliated body of the United Nations, unless such tax, tariff, fee, or other such penalty is imposed under a treaty with respect to which the Senate has provided its advice and consent under clause 2 of section 2 of article II of the Constitution of the United States.”

The bill further blocks the United States from making funds available to any entity that could “impose a global carbon tax” or enforce such a tax.

“The United Nations has come up with yet another way to take American tax dollars for their woke climate guilt,” said Lee. “President Trump stood up to the UN to block their global carbon tax, and it’s time for Congress to back him up and put America first. Americans are already the UN’s biggest cash cow – we shouldn’t be forced to pay for anything we don’t agree with, period.”

Earlier this year, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the United States takes a “hard no” on a global carbon tax.

In a joint statement with Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, Rubio affirmed that the White House “unequivocally rejects this proposal before the IMO and will not tolerate any action that increases costs for our citizens, energy providers, shipping companies and their customers, or tourists.”
