Republicans Push Work Visa Bill Under ‘Dignity’ Label

Ten Republicans have backed a bill granting work visas to illegal immigrants. The bipartisan bill, sponsored by Reps. Maria Salazar (R-FL) and Veronica Escobar (D-TX), claims to secure the border, restore law and order, and “allows certain long-term undocumented immigrants to earn legal status, without amnesty or a path to citizenship.”

Republican Reps. co-sponsoring the bill include Mike Lawler (R-NY), David Valadao (R-CA), Dan Newhouse (R-WA), Mike Kelly (R-PA), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Gabe Evans (R-CO), Marlin Stutzman (R-IN), Don Bacon (R-NE), and Young Kim (R-CA).

“The Dignity Act of 2025 is a revolutionary bill that offers the solution to our immigration crisis: secure the border, stop illegal immigration, and provide an earned opportunity for long-term immigrants to stay here and work,” Salazar said of the legislation. “No amnesty. No handouts. No citizenship. Just accountability and a path to stability for our economy and our future.”

According to the news release on the legislation, the DIGNITY Act is “fully funded through restitution payments and application fees made by immigrants, requiring NO taxpayer dollars.” It further describes the bill as acknowledging a “key truth: most undocumented individuals are not seeking citizenship at all costs, but rather the dignity of living and working legally, contributing to society, paying taxes, being safe from deportation, and traveling to see family during the holidays.”

The legislation comes as Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced that the zero illegal immigrations were released along the southwest border in June.

“From shutting down illegal crossings to seizing fentanyl and enforcing billions in tariffs, CBP is delivering results on every front,” said CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott. “Under this administration, we are protecting this country with relentless focus, and the numbers prove it.”
