Ronna McDaniel, the chairwoman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), has announced her decision to step down from her position, a move that comes amidst growing pressure within the Republican Party.
According to sources cited by The New York Times, McDaniel conveyed her intention to resign to former President Donald Trump during a meeting at his Mar-a-Lago residence on Monday. Her departure is scheduled after the South Carolina GOP primary, slated for February 24th.
Following the meeting, McDaniel’s chief of staff, Mike Reed, also declared his resignation from his role. Reed acknowledged the timing of the announcement amid swirling rumors and the impending merger with the presumptive nominee.
“I know the timing of this news comes as many rumors in the press swirl and we prepare to merge with the presumptive nominee. I assure you, the RNC is in an incredibly strong position,” Reed stated.
McDaniel’s decision to step down follows increasing calls from within the Republican ranks for her resignation in recent weeks, underscoring the significance of this development within the party’s leadership dynamics.
