Republican Introduces Impeachment Resolution Against Judge Blocking Trump

House Republicans are moving forward with efforts to impeach a judge who ruled against the Trump administration.

Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-WI) introduced a resolution earlier this week to impeach U.S. District Court Judge Paul Engelmayer for temporarily blocking the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing Treasury Department information.

“Paul Engelmayer, as a judge of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, engaged in judicial misconduct when he halted President Donald J. Trump’s Executive order establishing and implementing the President’s Department of Government Efficiency on purely political grounds, demonstrating clear bias and prejudice against the President and the 74,000,000 Americans who voted for him,” the resolution says.

The resolution further notes that Engelmayor has engaged in “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

“Judge Paul Engelmayer has abused his judicial office by using his authority to further personal or political interests, contrary to the constitutional responsibility to apply the law impartially, including the improper handling of this case in a manner that demonstrates favoritism or undue influence, undermining the fundamental principles of justice,” the resolution adds.

Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ) also plans to introduce an impeachment resolution against Engelmayer. The resolution says Engelmayer “did knowingly and willfully use his judicial position to advance personal interests and political gain.”

In abusing his power, the judge “engaged in actions that prioritize personal and political affiliations over the duty of impartiality owed to the public,” the resolution says, condemning Engelmayer for restraining President Donald Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent from granting access to Treasury records.
