Texas state legislators have called for Rep. Jasmin Crockett (D) to resign over her support of a bill that would have revoked Secret Service protection for Donald Trump.
Crockett was one of eight Democrats to co-sponsor a bill terminating Secret Service protection for “felons.” The bill came after Trump was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records.
Texas State Representative Brian Harrison (R) led the effort.
“Three months before President Trump was shot and almost killed, [Crockett] pushed legislation to take away his Secret Service protection,” Harrison wrote on X. “Proud to stand with my fellow #Txlege members in demanding she step down.”
“Texans believe that, regardless of party, Presidents of the United States of America, both current and former, must be protected,” the letter calling for Crockett’s resignation says. “Considering Saturday’s assassination attempt on President Trump, which resulted in him being literally shot in the ear and other innocent Americans being killed or injured, and, since you, just three months ago, sponsored legislation (HR 8081) to remove his Secret Service protective detail, we, the undersigned current and future members of the Texas Legislautre, call on you to immediately resign your position in Congress.”
“You have forfeited any moral authority to represent the State of Texas,” the letter declares.
The letter was signed by 27 Texas state legislators and candidates.
