Rep. Aaron Bean (R-FL) announced the creation of the “DOGE Caucus” on Tuesday, aimed at supporting President-elect Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The caucus seeks to rein in wasteful government spending and streamline bureaucracy under the leadership of Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, whom Trump appointed to head the new department.
In a letter to fellow lawmakers, Bean urged his colleagues to join the effort, highlighting the nation’s $36 trillion debt as a dire call to action. Reps. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ), Ralph Norman (R-SC), and Pete Sessions (R-TX) have already joined, with Sessions serving as co-chair. Bean emphasized the importance of addressing “unchecked power” in Washington, pointing to rampant overregulation and excessive spending as root causes of economic strain.
“Taking on Crazytown is no easy task,” Bean wrote. He continued on to say that “Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will need partners in Congress to accomplish many of the cuts necessary to rein in the unelected bureaucrats who have had unchecked power for far too long.”
Musk and Ramaswamy’s DOGE initiative has been described by Trump as a “Manhattan Project of our time.” The department aims to identify and eliminate government inefficiencies, fraud, and overreach. Musk recently shared examples of government waste on X, including reports of $233 billion lost annually to fraud and questionable studies funded by taxpayer dollars, such as experiments on alcohol’s effects on fish and quail behavior under cocaine.
Bean has made the goal of the caucus clear, stating, “We must take action to avoid diving headfirst off the cliff of fiscal ruin… Our DOGE Caucus, will work closely with the Department of Government Efficiency to help rein in reckless spending and stop the abuse of taxpayer dollars.”
Trump praised the DOGE project as a cornerstone of his plan to restore accountability and fiscal discipline. He expressed optimism that Musk and Ramaswamy’s leadership will “liberate our economy” and set the U.S. government on a sustainable path, aiming for a major milestone by July 4, 2026, during America’s 250th anniversary.
