The Department of Homeland Security has partnered with Indiana to expand detention facilities.
The new partnership will increase detention space by 1,000 beds and will be available at the Miami Correctional Center.
“COMING SOON to Indiana: The Speedway Slammer. Today, we’re announcing a new partnership with the state of Indiana to expand detention bed space by 1,000 beds,” said Secretary Kristi Noem. “Thanks to Governor Braun for his partnership to help remove the worst of the worst out of our country. If you are in America illegally, you could find yourself in Indiana’s Speedway Slammer. Avoid arrest and self-deport now using the CBP Home App.”
Indiana Governor Mike Braun said the state is “proud to work with President Trump and Secretary Noem as they remove the worst of the worst with this innovative partnership.”
“Indiana is taking a comprehensive and collaborative approach to combating illegal immigration and will continue to lead the way among states,” he said.
The development follows Braun’s announcement of agreements with federal immigration authorities last week. “Indiana is not a safe haven for illegal immigration. Indiana will fully partner with federal immigration authorities as they enforce the most fundamental laws of our country,” he said at the time.
The Speedway Slammer is the second state partnership, with the first being Florida’s Alligator Alcatraz. “The whole purpose is to make this be a place that can facilitate increased frequency and numbers of deportations of illegal aliens, and that is the goal,” Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) explained, discussing deportation flights. “And one of the reasons why this was a sensible spot is because you have this runway that’s right here. You don’t have to drive them an hour to an airport. You go a couple thousand feet and they can be on a plane and out of here.”
