Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) announced that he will continue to investigate former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci for his actions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
“If there was ever any doubt as to who bears responsibility for the COVID pandemic, Biden’s pardon of Fauci forever seals the deal,” he wrote on X. “As Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee I will not rest until the entire truth of the coverup is exposed. Fauci’s pardon will only serve as an accelerant to pierce the veil of deception.”
“Ignominious! Anthony Fauci will go down in history as the first government scientist to be preemptively pardoned for a crime.”
The announcement comes as Joe Biden, during his final hours as president, issued preemptive pardons for retired General Mark Milley, Dr. Anthony Fauci, and members of the January 6 Committee.
The White House statement praised Milley, Fauci, and committee members as “dedicated, selfless public servants” who faced unjust threats and intimidation for carrying out their duties. Biden argued that investigations into these individuals were harmful and politically driven, asserting, “Baseless and politically motivated investigations wreak havoc on the lives, safety, and financial security of targeted individuals and their families.”
Paul told the Washington Examiner in December that he intends to issue subpoenas for documents relating to the COVID-19 virus and its research.
“They have resisted for three years, and I’m not going to wait around another year to see if they start responding,” he said.
“What I’m looking for now is the actual deliberations, the paperwork, the discussion over whether or not it was or was not gain-of-function. I think there is something to be had there,” Paul added. “I don’t think they would have resisted me for three years if they actually didn’t have something to hide. It wouldn’t make sense.”
