Rachel Levine Claims All Pediatricians Agree ‘Gender Affirming Care’ Is Essential For Children

Transgender Assistant Secretary of Health Rachel Levine said all pediatricians believe in the importance of “gender affirming care” during a recent interview with NPR.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Levine told NPR that across the board all pediatricians believe in social affirmation of gender and hormone therapy starting at an early age to be valuable to children, Fox News reported.
  • “There is no argument among medical professionals – pediatricians, pediatric endocrinologists, adolescent medicine physicians, adolescent psychiatrists, psychologists, etc. about the value and the importance of gender-affirming care,” Levine said.
  • Irreversible surgery is however “typically used in adulthood or case-by-case basis in adolescence,” according to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES DEFINITION ON GENDER AFFIRMING CARE:

“For transgender and nonbinary children and adolescents, early gender affirming care is crucial to overall health and well-being as it allows the child or adolescent to focus on social transitions and can increase their confidence while navigating the healthcare system.”

BACKGROUND:
  • According to their website, HHS claims that “research demonstrates that gender-affirming care improves the mental health and overall well-being of gender diverse children and adolescents.”
  • “Because gender-affirming care encompasses many facets of healthcare needs and support, it has been shown to increase positive outcomes for transgender and nonbinary children and adolescents,” the website reads.
  • Levine, who is the highest-ranking transgender person in the U.S. government, also blamed the high rate of suicidal thoughts among transgender youth on “harassment, scapegoating and intentional abuse.”
  • “The language of medicine and science is being used to drive people to suicide,” Levine said.
