Presidential Race Heats Up: Trump Wants Debates with Harris, Casts Doubt on ABC News’ Hosting

In a recent statement on Tuesday, former President Trump expressed his openness to engage in multiple debates with Vice President Harris in the upcoming election phase. He indicated this willingness despite expressing reservations about participating in a debate organized by ABC News.

Trump affirmed his readiness to go head-to-head with Harris, who is poised to be the Democratic nominee following President Biden’s decision to not seek re-election. He emphasized his enthusiasm for debating at least once before the polls. However, Trump was critical of ABC News, which is scheduled to host a presidential debate on September 10.

“I have at least equal say, and I don’t like the idea of ABC,” Trump mentioned during a press briefing over a call. He even suggested his openness to engage in multiple debates.

Yet, Trump clarified that he has not finalized any arrangements regarding a debate with Harris. Trump emphasized the significance of debates in a presidential campaign.

Following Biden’s lackluster performance in the June 27 debate, there were widespread calls from his party members for him to withdraw his candidacy. Consequently, Biden announced his withdrawal on Sunday amidst growing pressures.

With the securing of sufficient delegate support, Harris is on track to receive the Democratic nomination. The Democratic National Convention is scheduled from August 19-22 in Chicago.
