Police announced earlier this week that transgender shooter Audrey Hale had been planning the deadly shooting months prior to the attack.
QUICK FACTS:
- Metro Nashville Police Department provided an update to the mass shooting that took place at the Covenant School last week, claiming biological female shooter Audrey Hale had been planning the attack for “months.”
- Hale had also been studying the way other “mass murderers” carried out their fatal shootings.
- “In the collective writings by Hale found in her vehicle in the school parking lot, and others later found in the bedroom of her home, she documented, in journals, her planning over a period of months to commit mass murder at The Covenant School,” authorities said. “The writings remain under careful review by the MNPD and the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit based in Quantico, Virginia.”
- While the motive for Hale’s attack has not yet been determined, police said the shooting “remains under investigation by the Homicide Unit in consultation with the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit.”
METRO NASHVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT’S STATEMENT ON THE DETAILS LEFT BEHIND BY TRANSGENDER SHOOTER AUDREY HALE:
“It is known that Hale considered the actions of other mass murderers,” the statement read.
BACKGROUND:
- The mass shooting carried out by Hale was at The Covenant School in Nashville, claiming the lives of six people, including three students and three adult staff members.
- Hale was a 28-year-old woman who identified as transgender and had previously attended the Christian school.
- Among the deceased students was nine-year-old Hallie Scruggs, the daughter of Chad Scruggs, senior pastor at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
- “We are heartbroken. She was such a gift. Through tears we trust that she is in the arms of Jesus who will raise her to life once again,” Pastor Scruggs said in a statement.
- Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) argued that Hale had “targeted” Christians, making it a federal hate crime.
