A Pennsylvania school district has closed Tuesday amid the search for illegal alien Danelo Cavalcante.
QUICK FACTS:
- A school district in southeastern Pennsylvania said all of its schools and offices will be closed Tuesday as the manhunt for murderer and illegal immigrant Danelo Cavalcante continues.
- Cavalcante, who is still on the run after escaping from prison nearly two weeks ago, is now armed according to officials.
- “As a result of increased police activity in our community related to the pursuit of an escaped inmate from Chester County Prison, and after consultation with state and local law enforcement, we have made the decision to close all schools and offices in our district today,” the superintendent of the Owen J. Roberts School District in Pottstown said.
- Pennsylvania State Police said on social media that Cavalcante, 34, has a .22 caliber rifle and that residents in the area should “lock all doors and windows, secure vehicles, and remain indoors.”
- Hundreds of officers have been searching for Cavalcante since he escaped in the area near Chester County Prison for his first-degree murder conviction in the death of an ex-girlfriend in 2021.
- “I believe that his actions show that he’s desperate,” Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens said Monday. “I believe there was an opportunity to escape. I don’t think there was a lot of planning that went into that. Now he finds himself on the run.”
- “The fact that he has reached out to people with a very distant past connection tells me he doesn’t have a great network of support,” he added.
SUPERINTENDENT WILL STOUT ON CLOSING THE PENNSYLVANIA SCHOOL DISTRICT AS THE SEARCH FOR ILLEGAL ALIEN DANELO CAVALCANTE CONTINUES:
“The safety and security of our students and staff remains our top priority. We know that this situation is stressful and upsetting for our entire community,” Stout said. “We thank you once again for your patience, support and understanding throughout the past several days. Please be assured that we are in regular contact with the Pennsylvania State Police, Chester County Emergency Services and local law enforcement.”
BACKGROUND:
- Cavalcante’s manhunt continues as Democrats across the country urge Biden to take action at the border.
- Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams recently said that illegal immigration “will destroy New York City.”
- Last month, Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) of Chicago said, “Let me state this clearly: The city of Chicago cannot go on welcoming new arrivals safely and capably without significant support and immigration policy changes.”
- The governor of Massachusetts has also declared a state of emergency due to swelling illegal immigration.
- “The reality is, Abbott was shining a light on existing issues that nobody was talking about, said moderate Republican Will Hurd, referring to Texas Governor Greg Abbott bussing migrants to liberal cities.
- Immigration will likely be on the minds of American voters as the 2024 election draws closer.
- “This is not just going to be a local New York City or Chicago or Boston issue,” said Democratic strategist Howard Wolfson. “This is going to be top of mind for voters all over the country next year, and my strong advice to the White House is they need to get off the sidelines and take action to address this.”
- White House spokesman Angelo Fernández Hernández said the Biden administration is “using the tools it has available to secure the border and build a safe, orderly and humane immigration system while leading the largest expansion of lawful pathways for immigration in decades.”
