Pennsylvania Gov. Used Public Funds to Train Liberal Social Media Influencers

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (D) used public funds to train liberal social media influencers on how to get their audience to vote in the upcoming presidential election.

The information, obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation through a records request, reveals that the state spent thousands of dollars to hold a one-day “Democracy Summer Camp.”

According to the report, Shapiro’s office invited 43 influencers to the July 25 event, none of whom leaned Republican. Seventy percent of the influencers had a strong liberal bias.

Flyers obtained by the outlet described the event as a “day hosted by Governor Shapiro and his Office of Digital Strategy for state and national content creators who regularly make content about voting, news, democracy, and politics to train them on Pennsylvania voting, misinformation online, and content.”

The voting portion of the camp discussed what Shapiro is doing to “protect voting rights,” while the misinformation portion discussed what actions influencers can take “when you see it on your timeline.” The content section explained the “important responsibility” that influencers have to “work together to create content that is authentic, real, and resourceful for their audiences.”

Pennsylvania State Rep. Seth Grove told the Daily Caller that the use of taxpayer funds for a Democrat-specific event is “very, very sketchy.”

“That was a cost to the taxpayers to do campaign work. I don’t believe for a second they had any interest in inviting Republicans … it was lopsided and targeted to Democratic influencers,” he said.
