One parent has lost her job after her child’s school district called her employer because she criticized COVID policies.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Officials in a Michigan school district have called employers of parents who felt the COVID policies in schools were problematic, The Blaze reported.
  • Allegedly, the school district was even going as far as to save files on the parents, sending them cease-and-desist letters asking them stop criticizing the board.
  • Elena Dinverno, a parent in the district, claimed she lost her job after the district called her employer to tell them she “was part of a group that was making threats against the school district.”
PARENTS ON HOLDING SCHOOL DISTRICTS ACCOUNTABLE:

“We have to address … the abusive and bullying behavior by our district that has been condoned by our board of education.”

BACKGROUND:
  • Superintendent of Rochester Community Schools Robert Shaner said he had called Detroit police about one of their officers, after seeing a social media post that “concerned” him, The Daily Wire reported.
  • “I said I was concerned about his behavior and, from his Facebook post, what he does for a living with the department. The assistant chief said she would look into it and contact their legal counsel,” he said.
  • Dinverno later filed a lawsuit against the school district, saying that their behavior towards her was abusive and out of line.
