Exiled Iranian Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi was hit with red liquid while in Berlin, Germany.
Video footage shows a demonstrator throwing a red liquid at Pahlavi from behind before being removed by security guards. Pahlavi’s security team then shields him from approaching reporters.
According to a report from the Associated Press, the liquid appears to be tomato juice.
Following the incident, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said, “This presents an important opportunity to resume diplomatic negotiations in Islamabad with the aim of making peace and averting further escalation of the war. Tehran should seize this opportunity.”
Pahlavi said on April 22 that he sought to support Iranians in Berlin. “While Iranians continue to fight for their freedom, I have come to Berlin to be their voice,” he wrote. “Tomorrow, I will meet with elected officials from various political parties in this country at the German Federal Parliament. I will also hold discussions with the media and meetings with Iranians residing in Germany.”
Pahlavi has called for the Islamic Republic to be overthrown and declared that he would accept the role of Iran’s transitional leader. Earlier this month, Pahlavi told his supporters, “[W]e knew from the start that the Islamic Republic would not fall merely through the elimination of its command and the weakening of its repressive apparatus via airstrikes. That is why, in every message to you, I emphasized that it is we, the Iranian nation, who must deliver the final blow to this weakened regime and bring it down.”
In March, he declared, “My commitment is to ensure the transition is orderly, the country is stabilized, and Iranians determine their future through the ballot box We will not repeat the mistakes of past transitions. We will avoid de-Baathification scenarios and maintain as many bureaucrats and public servants in the transition as possible.”
