Supreme Court Case Could Spark Major Voting Rights Act Reform

The Supreme Court will hear arguments next week in Louisiana v. Callais, a case that could set the stage for sweeping Voting Rights Act reform. At issue is whether Section 2 of the landmark 1965 law still protects voters from racial discrimination—or now compels states to racially gerrymander congressional districts.

The case stems from Louisiana’s Sixth Congressional District, drawn in 2022 to create two majority-black districts out of six, mirroring the state’s 30 percent black population. A group of “non-African American voters” challenged the map, calling it an unconstitutional racial gerrymander. One federal court ordered the state to create another majority-black district, while another condemned the plan for sorting voters by race—leaving officials trapped in legal contradiction.

Critics argue that Section 2 has been transformed “from a shield against racial discrimination into a sword that compels racial gerrymandering.” After Congress amended the law in 1982, courts began applying a “results test,” requiring districts to reflect racial population ratios even without proof of discrimination.

Chief Justice John Roberts noted in Shelby County v. Holder that “things have changed dramatically in the South.” Indeed, minority voter registration and turnout now equal—or exceed—that of whites across most of the country.

Supporters of Callais say the Court has a chance to reaffirm colorblind constitutional principles established in Students for Fair Admissions, which ended race-based college admissions.

‘St. Fagans Museum Theft’ Stuns Wales as Priceless Ancient Gold Vanishes

Authorities in Wales are investigating a theft at  St. Fagans museum after thieves broke into one of the most prominent Welsh cultural institutions and stole priceless ancient jewelry.

Police say the break-in occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Oct. 6 at St. Fagans National Museum in Cardiff, a renowned open-air museum located on the grounds of a 16th-century manor house. The suspects targeted a display of Bronze Age gold artifacts—items nearly 3,000 years old, according to the Welsh heritage service Cadw.

Detective Inspector Bob Chambers said two suspects “forced entry to the main building, where several items, including Bronze Age gold jewelry, have been stolen from a display case.” He added, “An investigation is ongoing, and we urge anyone with information to contact us as soon as possible.”

Museum Wales, which oversees the institution, confirmed that two men, aged 43 and 50, were arrested but that the search for the stolen artifacts continues. The organization described the heist as targeted and said it was “saddened” by the theft. “We would like to thank South Wales Police for their cooperation in this investigation and their prompt response when they were alerted in the early hours,” a spokesperson said.

The St. Fagans museum theft follows a similar crime just last month, when a 3,000-year-old bracelet was stolen and melted down from Egypt’s national museum—raising new alarms over the security of global cultural treasures.

Migrant Population Drops by Millions

A study by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) found that the number of foreign-born immigrants in the United States declined by 2.2 million. Nearly three-fourths of the decline consists of illegal immigrants.

“The August data shows a nearly identical number of immigrants as July, so the decline remains 2.2 million through August,” the report says, adding, “The decrease in the foreign-born might be dismissed as a statistical anomaly if only one month showed a much smaller foreign-born population compared to January. But, in fact, multiple months of CPS data show a large decline in the foreign-born after January.”

The report comes as the Department of Homeland Security announced that 2 million illegal immigrants have been removed from the country while others have self-deported. The number encapsulates data from the first 250 days of President Trump’s second term. According to the information, an estimated 1.6 million migrants have voluntarily chosen to leave the United States, while 400,000 have been removed by immigration authorities.

“Ramped-up immigration enforcement targeting the worst of the worst is removing more and more criminal illegal aliens off our streets every day and is sending a clear message to anyone else in this country illegally: Self-deport or we will arrest and deport you,” Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in September.

In March 2024, CIS detailed the total immigrant population in the United States, finding that there were 51.4 million legal and illegal immigrants residing in the United States, a population consisting of 15.5% of the entire U.S. population.

According to a recent Pew Research Center report, the total number of foreign-born residents fell by 1.4 million between January and June 2025.

Democrats, Media Blamed Climate Change for Palisades Fire — Evidence Tells a Different Story

Federal prosecutors have revealed that the devastating Los Angeles blaze once pinned on climate change was actually deliberate. The Palisades fire arson case has shattered months of political and media narratives that blamed the tragedy on global warming and fossil fuels.

Federal prosecutors in California have charged Jonathan Rinderknecht with “one count of destruction of property by means of fire,” a crime carrying up to 20 years in prison. “While we cannot bring back what victims lost, we hope this criminal case brings some measure of justice to those affected by this horrific tragedy,” said acting U.S. attorney Bill Essayli. Investigators said their conclusion was based on “witness statements, video surveillance, cell phone data, and an analysis of fire dynamics conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.”

That evidence directly contradicts what Democrats and major media outlets claimed at the time. Gov. Gavin Newsom posted, “If you don’t believe in science, believe your own damn eyes,” as he tied the fire to climate change and President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accords.

President Joe Biden, Sen. Bernie Sanders, and Reps. Jared Huffman and Jasmine Crockett each used the fire to call for sweeping climate policies. Meanwhile, outlets such as The New York Times, CNN, and NBC News published stories linking the blaze to “climate disasters compounded.”

The new charges suggest something far simpler — and more criminal — than climate change was to blame for the Palisades inferno.

Seattle Mayor Moves to Block National Guard

Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, a Democrat, signed two new executive orders designed to counter federal immigration enforcement efforts.

One executive order directs city entities to “prepare the City and protect our local communities and resources if the National Guard is unilaterally deployed to Seattle,” while the second order aims to “strengthen and enhance the City of Seattle’s response to federal threats to our immigrant and refugee communities.”

“We are in a truly unprecedented time in modern history where the president is talking about using American cities as ‘training grounds’ for the military – a disturbing statement that shows his disrespect for the law and disregard for the collaboration it takes between all levels of government to ensure our country thrives,” said Harrell. “As I said last week in partnership with Governor Bob Ferguson and Attorney General Nick Brown, we do not need federal troops in Seattle, and this dangerous strategy will only sow fear, distrust, and confusion in our communities. We cannot be under-prepared at this critical moment when President Trump is escalating his attacks on cities and carrying out his cruel deportation agenda on our immigrant and refugee neighbors with warrantless arrests by masked, un-identifiable officers. These Executive Orders are proactive steps we can take to protect our communities and values.”

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) signed an executive order Monday prohibiting federal immigration officials from using city property during their activities.

The order prohibits immigration officials from using a “city-owned and controlled parking lot, vacant lot, or garage” as a base for immigration enforcement. It further allows “private landowners and leaseholders” to display signage delineating “non-public areas of the property in which the landowner or leaseholder wishes to restrict activities related to civil immigration enforcement.”

Sen. Tim Kaine Denounces Violent Jay Jones Texts Then Backs His Candidacy

Sen. Tim Kaine is facing criticism after condemning, then excusing, violent text messages sent by Virginia Democratic attorney general nominee Jay Jones, reigniting scrutiny over the party’s double standard on political threats. The controversy centers on Tim Kaine Jay Jones comments made after a report revealed Jones’s disturbing messages to a Republican colleague.

According to Semafor journalist Burgess Everett, Kaine said the messages—where Jones joked about putting “two bullets” into the head of a GOP lawmaker—were “indefensible.” Yet Kaine went on to justify Jones’s actions, saying he has “known Jay since he was a teenager” and still supports his campaign for attorney general. “[Jones] is an individual who clearly was really hacked off about something and expressed it in a bad way,” Kaine said. “I do not think this is really who he is.”

The remarks came after National Review published Jones’s 2022 texts to Virginia House Rep. Carrie Coyner (R.), in which he listed Republican leader Todd Gilbert alongside Adolf Hitler and Pol Pot in a “three people, two bullets” scenario. Jones also wrote that he would “go to Republican colleagues’ funerals to piss on their graves” and “send them out awash in something.”

Jones’s violent rhetoric, paired with Kaine’s continued support, has sparked backlash from both parties. Critics say it underscores a troubling tolerance for extremism among Democrats when it comes from within their own ranks.

Jones is running against Republican incumbent Jason Miyares in Virginia’s upcoming attorney general race on November 4.

Over 70% of Americans Back Trump Drug Boat Strikes Targeting Cartels

A new Harvard CAPS/Harris poll shows overwhelming bipartisan support for Trump drug boat strikes, with 71 percent of Americans—including a majority of Democrats—backing U.S. military operations that destroy drug-smuggling vessels in international waters.

The poll found that 89 percent of Republicans, 67 percent of Independents, and 56 percent of Democrats approve of the Trump administration’s lethal strikes on cartel-run boats smuggling narcotics from South America. The findings highlight a rare moment of national unity behind one of President Donald Trump’s most aggressive anti-cartel policies.

According to U.S. officials, the military has destroyed at least four drug-smuggling boats off the coast of Venezuela since early September, killing more than 20 traffickers. “A boat loaded with enough drugs to kill 25 TO 50 THOUSAND PEOPLE was stopped, early this morning off the Coast of Venezuela, from entering American Territory,” Trump announced on Truth Social.

In a memo to Congress, the administration said the United States is now “in a non-international armed conflict” with drug cartels, which the State Department recently labeled as “foreign terrorist organizations.”

The poll also found that a majority of Americans support other key Trump initiatives—78 percent back deporting illegal immigrants who have committed crimes, and 86 percent support lowering prescription drug prices for seniors and low-income patients.

The results signal that Trump’s tough-on-crime agenda—particularly his decisive action against drug cartels—resonates strongly with voters across the political spectrum.

Masks Return to California

Sonoma County, California, announced that masks are to be worn in health facilities beginning November 1 through March 31.

“Given the greater risk of COVID, flu and other respiratory virus-related illnesses over the fall and winter months, Sonoma County Interim Health Officer Dr. Karen Smith issued an order today requiring health care personnel and others to wear masks inside patient care areas of specified health care facilities,” a statement from Sonoma’s Department of health Services reads. “The health order, designed to protect the most vulnerable populations, will take effect Nov. 1 and last through March 31, 2026.”

Facilities subject to the order include skilled nursing facilities, some long-term care facilities, acute and non-acute rehabilitation facilities, infusion centers, and dialysis centers. Both health care personnel and visitors are to wear masks in “lobbies, waiting rooms, examination rooms, therapy rooms and other areas where patients and health care providers interact,” the county said.

“The risk to vulnerable patients of COVID, flu and other respiratory viruses in health care facilities remains significant, so it continues to be important for face masks to be used in patient care areas when seasonal risk of exposure to one or more viruses is high,” Smith said, adding, “In California, vaccines remain covered by insurance for residents of all ages — and they remain the best protection we have against respiratory virus infections.”

Smith’s order asserts that the “risk to vulnerable patients of COVID-19, influenza, and other respiratory viruses in Health Care Settings, including skilled nursing facilities, remains significant, and so it continues to be important for Face Masks to be used in Patient Care Areas of these settings when seasonal risk of exposure to one or multiple viruses is at its highest.”

‘Unbelievably Tone Deaf’: Abdul El-Sayed’s Oct 7 Email Sparks Outrage for Ignoring Atrocities, Blaming Israel

Michigan Democrat Abdul El-Sayed is facing fierce backlash after sending a fundraising message marking the anniversary of Hamas’s Oct. 7 terrorist attacks — one that omitted any mention of Hamas’s atrocities and instead blamed Israel. The Abdul El-Sayed Hamas email drew immediate condemnation from across the political spectrum for what critics called a stunning display of moral blindness.

“Two years ago this month, Netanyahu’s military launched a ground invasion of Gaza,” the email began, according to Politico reporter Nicholas Wu. El-Sayed made no mention of Hamas’s massacre of 1,200 Israelis or the kidnapping of hundreds more that triggered the war. Instead, he denounced Israel’s counteroffensive as “unconscionable” and “wrong,” accusing the United States of funding a “senseless war.”

“So, how do we show moral clarity and change the course? By winning races like this one,” the Democratic Senate hopeful wrote, using the message to solicit campaign donations.

The tone-deaf message was met with swift outrage online. “Wait, he sent this on OCTOBER 7, with 0 mention of the attacks? Boy, talk about disqualifying,” wrote editor Brian Rosenwald on X. Another user called the message “truly disgraceful,” while one described it as “unbelievably tone deaf.”

El-Sayed’s campaign later attempted damage control, claiming “that email mistakenly went out yesterday.” Spokeswoman Roxie Richner said, “Abdul has been clear and consistent: he holds equally valuable the lives of all innocent people and condemns violence against them.”

This isn’t El-Sayed’s first controversy. The former CNN commentator has repeatedly faced scrutiny for appearing at events with anti-Israel and pro-Hamas speakers, raising fresh doubts about his credibility on foreign policy and moral judgment.

Poll Shows Kathy Hochul Vulnerable as Stefanik Gains Ground in Potential New York Matchup

A new statewide survey suggests Democratic governor Kathy Hochul is on shaky ground heading into 2026, with data showing the incumbent is against Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik in a hypothetical matchup that could upend New York politics.

According to a poll conducted by GrayHouse, Hochul leads Stefanik by just five points—48 percent to 43 percent—but once voters learn about both candidates’ records, Stefanik overtakes Hochul, edging ahead 46.4 percent to 45.9 percent. The findings point to a potential collapse in Hochul’s fragile coalition. Pollster Landon Wall described the governor’s standing as a “deeply vulnerable position,” noting her “coalition is historically fragile” and that there is a “significant growing appetite for change.”

The survey also found that Hochul’s endorsement of socialist New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani could cost her crucial support. Nearly 40 percent of voters—and 47 percent of independents—said they would be less likely to vote for a Democrat if Mamdani were elected.

Only 39 percent of respondents approve of Hochul’s performance as governor, while 56 percent disapprove. A strong 59 percent said it’s time for a new governor. Meanwhile, Stefanik enjoys a net positive approval rating statewide, positioning her as a serious challenger.

Stefanik responded to the results sharply, calling Hochul “the Worst Governor in America” and a “deeply embattled and historically unpopular failed Governor who is struggling to even gain support from her own party.”

The poll underscores a growing belief among voters that New York may be ready for a political shake-up.
