Over 3,200 Noncitizen Voter Registrations Deactivated in Alabama Ahead of 2024 Elections

In Alabama, ahead of the 2024 election cycle, a review discovered that over 3,200 voters, identified as noncitizens by federal authorities, were on the state’s voter registration rolls.

The move responds to Republican calls for stricter election laws, aiming to ensure only U.S. citizens participate in national elections.

Wes Allen, the Secretary of State of Alabama, in a recent press announcement on Tuesday, confirmed that 3,251 individuals identified by the federal government as noncitizens would be eliminated from the voter database in a bid for election integrity.

“This is not a one-time review of our voter file. We will continue to conduct such reviews to do everything possible to make sure that everyone on our file is an eligible voter,” Allen emphasized.

To identify these noncitizens, Allen’s office compared alien registration numbers, which are assigned by the Department of Homeland Security to noncitizens intending to reside permanently in the U.S. and who have applied for a green card, with those in the Alabama voter registration system, as reported by WVTM.

Furthermore, Allen disclosed plans to forward the list to the Attorney General’s Office for “further investigation and possible criminal prosecution” if needed, highlighting the importance of maintaining the sanctity and integrity of the voting process.
