Oregon State Hospital Gave Sex Toys to Patients Using Tax Dollars

Oregon State Hospital, the state’s highest-security psychiatric facility, has distributed dozens of sex toys to patients using taxpayer dollars. In 2024 alone, 65 sex toys were provided at a total cost of $2,900. In the prior year, 42 similar items were handed out. The hospital houses patients deemed unfit to stand trial or found guilty except for insanity, including individuals charged with violent and sexual crimes.

The items include explicit products such as Throttle Stroker, Her Pocket Bullet, Vibrating Helping Hand Pro, Double Dancer, and Waterproof Prostate Massager. Prices range from approximately $15 to $85 each. According to hospital officials, the sexual aids are part of a broader therapeutic program and are classified as occupational therapy tools. A hospital spokesperson stated that access to such products offers patients a private and ethical outlet for sexual expression.

The program is highly structured. Patients must give consent, demonstrate understanding of use and hygiene, and undergo monthly checks for at least three months. Items can be retained indefinitely based on patient need and therapist approval.

Critics have expressed sharp opposition. Crime victims’ advocates say it is dangerous and inappropriate to provide sexual stimulants to individuals with histories of violence or sexual offenses. One advocate, also a rape survivor, called the program deeply disturbing and likened it to supplying sex shop products to people unfit to function safely in society.

Reports from earlier in the year raised serious concerns about the hospital’s safety protocols. Investigations found that staff struggled to protect patients from assaults and other violent incidents, many of which went unreported. The addition of sexual devices in an already volatile environment has led to growing alarm about patient and staff safety, oversight failures, and the misuse of public funds.

For conservative and Christian Americans, the revelations are troubling. The idea that tax dollars are being used to fund sexual gratification for the criminally insane undermines both fiscal responsibility and moral order. In a facility meant to protect the public and rehabilitate dangerous individuals, distributing sex toys appears not only irresponsible but morally indefensible.
