A resurfaced interview featuring California Governor Gavin Newsom’s wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, sees her criticizing evangelical Christians, stating that they are “pulling us back as a country.”
Criticizing those deemed “far right,” she said, “They’re living in this Evangelical, conservative silo that, ultimately, is just pulling us back as a country to a time and a place where we don’t deserve to be and we’re not gonna be,” Siebel Newsom claimed. “Because honestly, young women and fathers of daughters are awake now, and they’re woke, and they’re not going to let us go back.”
At a separate point in the interview, she stated, “So many progressives are leaning into redefining what pro-life is really about, and that’s what we’re doing in California.” Siebel Newsom went on to argue that being pro-life “is about prenatal care and universal preschool and universal after-school and universal healthcare and taking care of foster kids and feeding kids universal meals and childcare. Like, that’s pro-life. It’s not about conception.”
The resurfaced comments come as some speculate Governor Newsom is planning to launch a 2028 presidential campaign. Reports indicate that Newsom is spending $19 million in a campaign to improve the state’s image, although the campaign may also aim to boost his own public image.
President Trump has also condemned Newsom’s recent remarks made in Atlanta while promoting his book.
“Gavin Newscum’s interview weeks ago was, perhaps, the most self destructive interview I’ve ever seen. In one fell swoop, he took himself out of even being considered as the Presidential Nominee of the Crazy (as proven at the State of the Union Address) Democrats,” Trump wrote, adding, “While we all want to be politically correct, having a mental disorder is not a positive campaign event. Also, this was a politically suicidal act,” he continued. “The only thing he didn’t say is he is losing his look, but nobody wants to say that about one’s self. He is no longer a viable Presidential Candidate!”
