Nevada Aligns with Trump to Address Immigration

The State of Nevada will cooperate with federal immigration authorities, the Trump administration announced.

“When others cower, real leaders step up,” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem wrote on X. “I applaud the Nevada Sheriffs’ & Chiefs’ Association and Governor Joseph Lombardo for their commitment to working with ICE to protect American citizens from dangerous criminal illegal aliens.”

“Because of their efforts, Nevada has been removed from the Trump Administration’s sanctuary jurisdiction list,” the DHS secretary continued. “I encourage every leader across our nation to follow their example so that all Americans can live in peace and safety.”

Noem shared an August letter from the Nevada Sheriffs’ & Chiefs’ Association, which stated that each sheriff and their office must “cooperate with Immigration, Customs, and Enforcement (ICE), through effective communication with ICE.” Sheriffs are also to have an “active policy, procedure, and practice that explicitly documents and provides all staff with the guidelines necessary to cooperate and maintain a working relationship with ICE.”

“We are committed to ensuring our jurisdictions are in full compliance with federal and state laws, especially when it comes to immigration enforcement actions in support of the Department of Homeland Security’s efforts,” the letter read.

In September, the Department of Justice announced a Memorandum of Understanding with Nevada to jointly address immigration enforcement.

“The Department of Justice is committed to eradicating sanctuary policies across America,” the Department shared in a press release at the time. “We applaud Governor Lombardo and Nevada for taking necessary steps to fully comply with the Trump Administration’s immigration policy. This should serve as a reminder to other jurisdictions: come to the table and work with us instead of going to court.”
