Noland Arbaugh, a 29-year-old Neuralink patient, played chess with his mind in a newly-released video.
Arbaugh, a paralyzed man, moved the computer cursor with his thoughts.
“It just became intuitive for me to start imagining the cursor moving,” he said. “Basically, it was like using the Force on the cursor, and I could get it to move wherever I wanted. Just stare somewhere in the screen and it would move where I wanted it to, which was such a wild experience.”
Elon Musk responded to the video, writing, “Long-term, it is possible to shunt the signals from the brain motor cortex past the damaged part of the spine to enable people to walk again and use their arms normally.”
Last month, Neuralink announced that the brain chip patient moved a computer mouse with his mind.
When asked if he had any updates on the patient, Musk said the individual “seems to have made a full recovery with no ill effects that we’re aware of and is able to control the mouse, move the mouse around the screen just by thinking.”
