Nearly 30 People Injured After Car Rams Through Crowd in Germany

At least 27 people have been injured after a car plowed through a crowd in Munich, Germany. The incident is believed to be an intentional attack.

Two of the people are “seriously injured,” the police said in a social media statement. “There are still numerous emergency services on site around the incident site. Caring for the injured is currently the top priority. Support the rescue services by keeping the escape routes clear.”

A young child is believed to be one of those seriously injured.

The driver of the car was a 24-year-old Afghan migrant, Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder declared.

“It is simply terrible and hurts so much. A serious attack occurred in #München. An Afghan citizen drove a car into a crowd and injured many people, some very seriously,” he wrote on X, according to a translation. “We feel for all the victims and pray for the injured and all their families. Thank you to the emergency services for their quick and decisive intervention. One thing is clear: we always react prudently – but we are also determined. This is not the first attack of this kind. Sympathy and coming to terms with the past are important. But something fundamental has to change in Germany.”

“We are shocked by a terrible attack in Munich,” German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said. “An Afghan perpetrator drove into a demonstration. Many people are injured, some very seriously. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families. The perpetrator must feel the full force of the rule of law.”
