Muslim University Opens in Texas

TexAM University at Dallas is advertising itself as a “Texas American Muslim University” that mixes STEM programs with required Islamic studies, Texas Scorecard reports.

According to the school’s website, the academic institution is the “first university in the United States to offer STEM degree programs embedded with mandatory courses in Islamic Studies.”

“The university provides specialized programs that integrate modern technology with Islamic principles, empowering students with skills in digital innovation while upholding Islamic values,” the site says. “Our graduates are prepared to excel in diverse fields such as Islamic finance, digital services, and religious education in today’s technology-driven world.”

Courses offered by the university include a Master’s in Artificial Intelligence, Introduction to Cybersecurity, and Introduction to AI.

It remains unknown if the university is accredited.

Other Islamic-focused universities in the country include Zaytuna College in Berkeley, California; American Islamic College in Chicago, Illinois; The Islamic University of Minnesota, and others.

Reports of the university come as a Texas waterpark is offering an exclusive Muslim-only day.

According to a flyer for the event, tickets are $65 dollars with the food option and $55 without the food option. It notes that the event is “for Muslims only” and is a “family-friendly environment.” The event also features a “private prayer area.”

“We’ve set up a private prayer room upstairs, complete with adjacent restrooms for your convenience,” the event website says. “The room will be available from 5:30-7:30.”

One the site’s FAQ page, organizers reiterated that “modest dress is required—just as it would be in any mixed-gender setting. Attendees of all ages are expected to dress in accordance with Islamic values.”
