Elon Musk has made the maximum donations to Republican lawmakers who support impeaching judges blocking the efforts of the Trump administration, according to a report from The New York Times.
Musk has provided $6,600 to the campaigns of 7 Republicans: Reps. Eli Crane (AZ), Lauren Boebert (CO), Andy Ogles (TN), Andrew Clyde (GA), Derrick Van Orden (WI), Brandon Gill (TX), and Senator Chuck Grassley (IA).
Gill, Ogles, and Orden have introduced resolutions to impeach judges who are working against in opposition to the Trump agenda.
Crane said of the donation that the Republicans have not called for impeachments in order to receive campaign donations, noting he thinks “it’s great that individuals like Elon are throwing support behind those of us willing to take action.”
Other Republicans made similar remarks of gratitude for Musk’s support.
Chief Justice John Roberts issued a statement criticizing the calls to impeach a federal judge halting the deportation of Venezuelan gang members.
“For more than two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreement concerning a judicial decision,” Roberts said. “The normal appellate review process exists for that purpose.”
Ogles said of Roberts’ comment that “both James Madison and Thomas Jefferson disagree with you. So does the Constitution,” adding, “We are going to keep the impeachments coming.”
Musk voiced his support for the impeachment efforts, writing, “For more than two centuries, there has never such extreme abuse of the legal system by activists pretending to be judges. Impeach them.”
