Most Americans Hoping to Avoid Political Talk During Thanksgiving

A CBS News/YouGov poll found that 71% of Americans hope to avoid political discussion during Thanksgiving.

More than a quarter of Americans (29%) hope to talk politics, the poll noted.

Republicans are more willing to broach the topic than Democrats, with 37% saying they expect to talk politics compared to 28% of Democrats.

When Americans begin their Thanksgiving festivities, 47% of liberals said they would gather with people who mostly voted for Vice President Kamala Harris. 38% of conservatives said they will primarily be joined by those who supported President-elect Donald Trump.

31% of conservatives, 26% of moderates, and 20% of liberals said they both sides of the political aisle will join them for Thanksgiving.

79% of survey respondents said they are thankful for their “family and friends” this year, followed by 71% who said they are thankful for “health” and 58% who said “freedom.” 49% said they are thankful for their faith.

A Quinnipiac University poll had similar results, finding that 61% of Americans wish to avoid political discussions during Thanksgiving dinner. It also discovered that 29% of Americans look forward to discussing politics during the holiday dinner.
