Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has filed a lawsuit against Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) over the extradition of an immigration agent accused of shooting a Minneapolis man.
The lawsuit follows letters sent by Ellison and Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty urging Abbott to extradite ICE agent Christian Castro.
According to the lawsuit, Castro “fired a gun at the front door of a home in Minneapolis, Minnesota, knowing that the home was occupied by multiple people, and that Castro’s gunshot struck and injured a person inside the home.” The judge found “probable cause to believe that because of this conduct, Castro committed four felony counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon in violation of Minnesota law. The judge also found probable cause to believe that Castro committed a misdemeanor offense by falsely reporting a crime. The judge issued a nationwide warrant for Castro’s arrest.”
Discussing the lawsuit during a press conference, Abbott said, “I don’t trust Tim Walz on anything, let alone something like this.”
“While they’re making demands, I got a demand of my own, and that is, it’s time for Minnesota to step up and repay the United States of America and Americans for all the fraud that they have committed in their state under federal programs,” Abbott explained, as per CBS News. “I will not respond to them at all until they step up and do what’s right, and they acknowledge their fault in the fraud that took place, and they fully repay the United States of America for the fraud they committed.”
