Millennials Continue Fleeing Blue States

A survey from Smart Asset found that millennials are continuing to flee blue states for conservative-run red states.

The survey found that Florida and Texas gained the most wealthy millennial households compared to other states.

The median income for millennials is $84,000, but the survey noted that some make upwards of $200,000 a year.

“When looking at the inflow and outflow of wealthy Millennials, Florida had the highest net immigration of high earners in this age group with 6,188 households. Texas ranked second with a net gain of 5,151 households,” the survey explained.

North Carolina gained the third-greatest number of wealthy millennials.

Throughout 2024, California lost a net of 9,181 millennial households. New York lost the second-most, with 4,251. Illinois and Massachusetts also lost a significant amount of millennial residents.

Last year, the U.S. Census Bureau found that Democrat-dominant states have lost hundreds of thousands of residents.

“In 2023, more states gained population than has been seen since the start of the pandemic,” the report said, adding that the “increasing number of states with population growth reflects both the broad national trends of deaths and net international migration returning to pre-COVID levels as well as reduced net domestic outmigration for some of the states.”

The states with the greatest population losses include California, Hawaii, Illinois, Louisiana, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

California lost over 75,000 residents.

“Collectively, these states had a population loss of 249,161 in 2023, compared to a loss of 509,789 in 2022,” the report explained.
