Some Migrant Caravans Rushing, Others Abandoning Efforts to Cross Border

Groups of illegal immigrants are rushing to cross the U.S. southern border before President-elect Donald Trump’s January inauguration.

The New York Post reported that border patrol sources believe migrant groups will attempt to “rush into the U.S. before Trump takes office and enacts much tougher policies for illegal immigrants.”

“We’re going to have to seal up those borders and we’re going to have to let people come into our country. We want people to come back in, but we have to let them come back in, but they have to come back in legally,” Trump said in a speech after his electoral success.

A group of 100 migrants entered the country at Eagle Pass, Texas, just hours before Trump was declared the winner of the U.S. Presidential Election. The group included unaccompanied children.

Another group of migrants, about 3,000 in number, was en route to the United States before hearing about Trump’s election win. Upon hearing the news, some migrants reportedly left the caravan.

According to Reuters, the migrant caravan has now decreased to 1,600. “I had hoped [Kamala Harris] would win, but that didn’t happen,” one migrant said.

Previous reports described a caravan of 2,000 migrants heading to the United States.
