Federal agents conducting an immigration enforcement operation in California discovered eight unaccompanied migrant children working at a cannabis farm.
“Here’s some breaking news: 10 juveniles were found at this marijuana facility – all illegal aliens, 8 of them unaccompanied. It’s now under investigation for child labor violations,” said CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott. “This is Newsom’s California.”
The statement came in response to California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) condemning the raid, saying children were “running from tear gas” and “Crying on the phone because their mother was just taken from the fields.”
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) also criticized Newsom’s comment, asking on social media, “Why are there children working at a marijuana facility, Gavin?”
According to the cannabis company, Glass House Brands, it has “never knowingly violated applicable hiring practices and does not and has never employed minors.” The company added that it verified that the warrants received from authorities were valid and complied with them accordingly.
An individual allegedly fired a pistol at a federal law enforcement officer during the operation, prompting the FBI to issue a $50,000 award for information leading to the individual’s conviction.
Border czar Tom Homan has since spoken out about the incident, telling “Fox & Friends” Friday morning, “What happened in California is just another example of protesters becoming criminals, and they’ve been emboldened by even members of Congress who compare ICE to Nazis and racists and terrorists.”
Newsom’s office released a statement condemning the operation, calling the immigration enforcement actions “inhumane.”
“Instead of supporting the businesses and workers that drive our economy and way of life, Stephen Miller’s tactics evoke chaos, fear and terror within our communities at every turn,” the statement read. “At Miller’s direction, Trump’s agents continue to detain U.S. citizens and racially profile Americans, ripping families apart and disappearing parents and workers into cruel federal detention centers to meet their self-imposed arrest quotas.”
