Michael Moore Trump Deportations Rant Sparks Controversy

Filmmaker Michael Moore is sounding the alarm over President Donald Trump’s deportation policies, arguing that illegal immigrants being removed from the U.S. could be the very people capable of curing cancer or preventing a global catastrophe.

“Who’s really being removed by ICE tonight? The child who would’ve discovered the cure for cancer in 2046? The 9th grade nerd who would’ve stopped that Astroid [sic] that’s gonna hit us in 2032?” Moore wrote in a Substack post Tuesday.

To support his claim, the Fahrenheit 9/11 director pointed to Apple co-founder Steve Jobs’ biological father, Abdulfattah Jandali, a Syrian immigrant. Moore suggested that without Jandali, Jobs would not have existed, and innovations such as the iPhone and even TV shows like Ted Lasso might never have been created.

Moore then accused Trump voters of being “bigots” who fail to recognize the value that immigrants bring to the country. He asserted that “non-haters” understand the contributions of migrants, arguing that deportations could be removing people who would have made meaningful contributions to American society.

“ICE agents all across America are banging down doors to remove the dangerous ‘illegals,’” Moore wrote. “But one of them might’ve been the guy who tomorrow was going to help rebuild a children’s playground across town — but he is now in shackles on a military cargo plane on its way to Guatemala.”

Despite Moore’s concerns, the Trump administration’s deportation efforts have focused on individuals accused of violent crimes, including child rapists, human traffickers, and gang members. Trump ran on a strong immigration enforcement platform in 2024 and won in a landslide victory, securing both the Electoral College and the popular vote.
