First Lady Melania Trump has officially opened applications for Americans to volunteer at the White House for the 2025 Christmas season. Volunteers will help decorate the historic residence and perform at holiday open houses in December.
According to a press release from the First Lady’s Office, “President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are excited to continue the cherished tradition of welcoming volunteers to help celebrate the holiday season at the People’s House.”
Applicants from all 50 states and U.S. territories are invited to apply for the opportunity to assist with Christmas decorations or perform at White House events. The application period is open until September 5 at 5 p.m. Eastern Time, and those selected will be notified by October 13.
Volunteers helping with decorating must be 18 years or older. Decoration activities will take place between November 24 and November 30. Performing groups, such as school choirs and bands, will be scheduled throughout December.
During the Trump administration’s first term, White House Christmas themes included “America the Beautiful” in 2020, “The Spirit of America” in 2019, “American Treasures” in 2018, and “Time-Honored Traditions” in 2017, each celebrating patriotic values and historic American culture.
This announcement comes in contrast to controversial displays under the Biden administration. The 2023 theme, a “playful interpretation of The Nutcracker Suite,” included unconventional elements like tap dancers and a man dressed as a flower, drawing criticism for lacking traditional American themes.
This year’s return to a more classical and patriotic celebration at the White House reflects a renewed emphasis on American traditions and family-centered holiday values.
