First Lady Melania Trump visited Marine Corps Base Quantico to honor military families and their children as part of a partnership with Toys for Tots and the Toy Association.
“Today, we are here for one of the most beloved traditions of the holiday season: Toys for Tots, led by the United States Marine Corps Reserves. For more than 75 years, Marines and volunteers across America collect and deliver new toys to children who need a little extra joy during Christmas. All wrapped with love, and great care,” Mrs. Trump said in her address, going on to celebrate the Toy Association for bringing “the delight of Christmas morning to millions of children.”
“To the families of military personnel: you are the heart of today’s celebration. Your strength in the face of adversity is inspirational. Some of the children here today have a parent stationed away from home right now. I know this can be difficult. On behalf of our Nation, thank you,” she said, encouraging families to “wish for the ultimate gift—love.”
The first lady’s support for military families is the latest instance of the Trump administration’s honor for U.S. troops.
Over the week of Thanksgiving, Vice President JD Vance served meals to U.S. troops at Fort Campbell, Tennessee, appearing alongside Second Lady Usha Vance and their three children.
Speaking to the troops, Vance declared that “Thanksgiving is a uniquely American thing.”
“Here’s the thing about Thanksgiving: it is so American because at the heart of it is the spirit of gratitude,” he added. “And I know that every single one of you has something tomorrow to be thankful for, and to be grateful for.” He explained that the “happiest people” he has ever met are those who live their lives with gratitude. “They recognize that they would not be there but for the grace of God and a lot of great people in their lives.”
