Mayor Adams Commends Trump Administration’s Immigration Enforcement

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has expressed gratitude to the Trump administration for its intensified efforts against criminal illegal immigrants, attributing a significant decline in migrant arrivals to these actions.

At a recent press conference, Adams highlighted a dramatic reduction in the number of migrants seeking shelter in the city, from a peak of 4,000 per week to approximately 350 per month. He credited this improvement to both local policy adjustments and federal immigration enforcement under President Trump’s leadership.

Adams noted that the influx of illegal immigrants was “probably the largest humanitarian crisis the city has ever experienced…I am in alignment with whatever we have to do legally to keep our city safe.”

Adams, a Democrat, has diverged from his party’s typical stance by collaborating with the Trump administration, including working closely with Border Czar Tom Homan. This partnership aims to address the city’s migrant crisis and enhance public safety.

Despite facing criticism from fellow Democrats and media outlets for his cooperation with federal authorities, Adams remains steadfast in his commitment to prioritize the well-being of New York City residents. He stated, “They are helping me with the agenda that I stated the previous administration should have been helping me with, and I thank them for helping me with it.”

He went onto add, “This is what we called for and advocated for, and the American people have communicated, ‘We need to secure our border…’ There’s nothing humane about having individuals into the country with no place to go, no sponsors here, no ability to take care of themselves. And pushing the cost of it onto cities is just wrong.”

The mayor also announced plans to close the Roosevelt Hotel shelter, a facility that had become a symbol of the city’s migrant challenges. Opened in May 2023 during the height of the crisis, the hotel had been repurposed to accommodate the influx of migrants. Its closure signifies a turning point in managing the city’s resources and addressing public safety concerns.

Adams’ acknowledgment of Trump’s border policies underscores a harsh reality: Democratic policies on illegal immigration have strained cities beyond their capacity. With crime, homelessness, and public services under immense pressure, New York’s Democrat mayor has been forced to turn to the very enforcement measures his party once denounced. His praise for the Trump administration’s efforts signals a clear failure of leftist immigration policies, highlighting the necessity of strong border security and law enforcement.
