Republican legislators in Massachusetts are calling for more openness about the expenditure exceeding $1 billion on migrants within the state, which they argue is mostly hidden from the public. The Massachusetts GOP has issued a statement urging the administration of Governor Maura Healey to reveal a comprehensive expenditure report on the immigration influx they attribute to the shortcomings of the Biden-Harris administration, along with its effects on the state’s residents.
“The Healey-Driscoll Administration has shrouded nearly $1 billion spent in secrecy, leaving Massachusetts residents in the dark,” stated MassGOP chair Amy Carnevale. “They have withheld critical information on 600 incidents involving police, fire, and EMT. Blocking journalists at every turn, the administration has obstructed the flow of information to the public.”
Carnevale is seeking details regarding the allocation of state funds for migrant accommodation, identities of both governmental and private providers of emergency shelters, locations of these shelters, all communications regarding safety concerns, and any reports from law enforcement or public safety agencies through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request.
Carnevale accuses the state’s Democratic leadership of enveloping the true financial and societal impact of the migrant crisis in secrecy. “Today, the Massachusetts Republican Party is standing against the veil of secrecy and the obstructionist efforts of the Healey-Driscoll Administration and the Democratic supermajority,” she declared.
“We stand with the Massachusetts press corps in declaring: enough is enough. The public deserves transparency. Release the details on the vendors profiting from this crisis and the public safety issues affecting our communities.” She further expressed the party’s demand for accountability on behalf of the residents.
