Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) criticized the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for its contrasting treatment of President-elect Donald Trump’s family compared to President Joe Biden’s. Greene highlighted the FBI’s raid of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, including the search of his son Barron’s bedroom, while noting the absence of similar actions regarding Hunter Biden.
“The FBI raided Barron’s bedroom but NOT Hunter’s bedroom. Just think about that,” Greene stated in a social media post. She called for reform, suggesting, “Kash Patel needs to dismantle the FBI and rebuild it,” and added, “There are people that need to go to jail.”
These comments follow President Biden’s pardon of his son, Hunter Biden, on Sunday. According to reports, Hunter Biden faced convictions for three gun charges in June 2024 and pleaded guilty to tax evasion in September 2024. Critics also allege that Hunter evaded prosecution for failing to register as a foreign agent, which could have implicated President Biden in alleged influence-peddling schemes dating back to the Obama administration.
In his statement explaining the pardon, President Biden claimed, “For my entire career I have followed a simple principle: just tell the American people the truth.” Critics, however, argue that the president and the White House misled the public about their intentions regarding Hunter’s legal troubles.
Greene’s remarks referenced the August 2022 FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago, during which agents reportedly searched Barron Trump’s bedroom and Melania Trump’s closet. Donald Trump described the incident as a “shocking” abuse of power and denounced the Biden administration for its actions.
In the same post, Greene mentioned Kash Patel, whom Trump has named as his choice for FBI director in his upcoming administration. Trump praised Patel as a “brilliant lawyer” and “America First” advocate, citing his prior work uncovering what he referred to as the “Russia hoax” and his roles in the Department of Defense, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the National Security Council.
Trump expressed confidence in Patel’s abilities, stating, “Kash did an incredible job during my First Term… standing as an advocate for truth, accountability, and the Constitution.”
