Marjorie Taylor Greene Files Motion to Remove House Speaker Mike Johnson

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) filed a motion to remove House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).

The move follows Greene urging Johnson to refrain from bringing the $1.2 trillion spending bill to the House floor.

In a statement on X, Greene called the bill a “Chuck Schumer, Democrat-controlled bill coming from the ‘Republican-controlled’ House.”

In a subsequent tweet, Greene said she filed a Motion to Vacate because the House “needs a Speaker who’s able to win for Republicans and our constituents.

Greene later said bringing the bill to the floor was a “complete betrayal of Republican voters across the country.”

She explained that Johnson broke conference rules by failing to allow for amendments to the bill. “He forced all of us to vote on a bill without amendments. We had no choice, we couldn’t introduce amendments, we couldn’t fight for the values of our districts, and we had to vote on a bill in one day that had 1,012 pages.”

“These are breaking our conference rules, this is not what Republicans want from a Republican Speaker of the House, and he’s basically handed control to Chuck Schumer.”
