U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., has been named chair of a new House subcommittee tasked with collaborating with President-elect Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Greene, a staunch Trump ally, has vowed to eliminate wasteful spending and hold federal agencies accountable.
“We’ll be looking at everything from government-funded media programs like NPR that spread Democrat propaganda to grant programs funding projects like sex apps in Malaysia and toilets in Africa,” Greene said during a media appearance Sunday.
The subcommittee will operate under the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, chaired by U.S. Rep. James Comer, R-Ky. Comer emphasized the Republican commitment to streamlining government operations, calling it a fight against the “deep state.”
“We want to work for the taxpayers, not the bureaucrats,” Comer said. “What Trump has… are willing partners to make government more efficient.”
DOGE, co-chaired by Tesla CEO Elon Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, has prioritized addressing the $36 trillion national debt. Their goals include increasing transparency, cutting unnecessary programs, and balancing the federal budget.
“Proper oversight of agencies and public transparency are critical,” Ramaswamy posted on social media in support of Greene’s appointment.
Greene has pledged sweeping reforms, stating that no agency, including the Pentagon, is exempt from scrutiny. “Our government should steward every single cent of your hard-earned money,” Greene said. She highlighted a recent IRS audit revealing that employees and contractors owed $50 million in unpaid taxes.
“The same unelected IRS employees and contractors who owe millions would throw Americans in jail for not paying their taxes. Time to hold them all accountable,” Greene stated.
Rejecting accusations from Democrats, Greene clarified that programs like Social Security would not be targeted. “No, Senator Warren, we are not going to take away a senior’s Social Security,” Greene said. “We are going to investigate all areas of the federal government like CFPB, an ‘independent’ agency inside the federal government… run by unelected bureaucrats.”
Greene framed the subcommittee’s mission as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for transformative change. “In the private sector, if you’re not doing a good job, you get fired. But for some reason, in government, bad employees… never get fired,” Greene said. “This is incredibly unfair to the hard-working taxpayers of our country, and it’s about to change.”
